Your core values are unique to you.
Identifying them helps you set yourself apart from others offering similar services.
By knowing who you are and what is special about you, you can align your personal values with your business values or those of the organisation you want to work for.
What are your core values?
Values represent what you stand for in your life and what is important to you. Knowing and understanding personal values contributes to happiness, fulfilment and success. Of course values can change over the course of your life. Key values may be, for example, authenticity, honesty and professionalism.
How to find out what your values are
Most of us don’t really know what our values are. The first time I found out about my own values was when I trained as a coach. Unknowingly, we tend to adopt other people’s values. We are influenced by our family, colleagues, neighbours, friends, the media, our education and culture. I often run a “value audit” with professionals and individuals I coach to help them be true to themselves.
How to differentiate yourself
Once you are clear about what your values are it is easier to:
- include them in your profile and show how you are unique
- align your personal brand or business brand with your own values
- create a clear and powerful message about what you do and who you are
- feel happier and do meaningful work
- work with likeminded partners, colleagues, and clients.
Knowing your core values helps you stand out from the crowd.
